Dormition (Assumption) Cathedral Church School Resumed on Sunday, September 15
This year the 2013-14 Dormition Church School year began on Sunday, 15-Sep-13. If you have not already done so please give your name to Fr. Ioann, e-mail or call him at (734) 395-2434.
Classes begin with a lunch/prayer at 12:00pm noon. Please do not be late! We have condensed the classes to the greatest extent possible for the convenience of our busy families - we value your time. Please do us a favor of valuing the time of the teachers and other volunteers who make our Church School possible by being on time.
- 12:00pm - Prayer, Lunch

- 12:45pm - Dismissal Prayer
All children are urged to participate in the Divine Liturgy to the greatest extent possible by ringing bells, serving in the altar, singing, helping in the kiosk, and most importantly by being present in the church and praying with their parish family, and especially by partaking of the Holy Mysteries. The Liturgy is not a spectacle or an event that we watch, but a prayerful - work of the people that we participate in through our prayerful involvement. Please contact Fr. Viktor and/or Fr. Ioann with questions in this regard.
Orthodox Inquirer's Class:
Adult Orthodox Education Class at Dormition Cathedral (October 2013)
With the blessing of Fr. Viktor, Fr. Ioann will be leading an Inquirer's Adult Orthodox Education Class at Dormition Cathedral on a pre-selected Saturday of each month (4:30pm) prior to Saturday evening service. For the remainder of 2013 this is scheduled for the following dates: 19-Oct, 9-Nov, 7-Dec. The plan is for the class to begin a prayer, reading (eg Akathist to the Mother of God) and then discuss inquirers to the Orthodox faith with respect to the Law of God, Orthodox Theology and Liturgics. Refreshments will be provided for all in attendance. Please contact Fr. Ioann if you have any questions and/or would like to sign up for this class.
Annual Parish Meeting
The date for the annual parish meeting has been tentatively set for Sunday, November 17. In order to vote on any issues at this meeting, you must be a dues paying member of the parish and your 2013 dues must be paid prior to the meeting. If you wish to be become a member of the church, please fill out an application, available from the Treasurer, Mike Pastukhov. Any prospective members will then be approved at the annual meeting and you should be in attendance. However, you will not be able to vote at this year's meeting, as you need to be a member for six months.
Thanksgiving Dinner
Our Thanksgiving dinner will be held on Sunday, November 24. Please plan on attending and enjoy a wonderful, traditional dinner. Watch for more information in next month's bulletin.
